Cara is the name of a rural house, where artists and writers can retreat
to do creative work. With a view at the characteristic Irish landscape,
the green fields and Coulah bay.
Your hostess, Sue Booth-Forbes, is an American writer, who created
an atmosphere that makes creativity bloom.
Anam Cara offers specific Irish meals, a sauna, a large flower and
vegetable garden and direct access to the valley of the Kealincha river,
with an opportunity to swim, to all the participants of the drawing
and painting week.
The office is equipped with a phone, fax, internet connnection, copier
and bw/color printer.
If there are more participants than there is room in Anam Cara, the
remainder will stay at the bed and breakfast of Rosarie and Battie O’
Neill, and follow the program during the day. In cooperation with Rosarie
O’Neill, Sue Booth-Forbes can arrange trips to the marvellous peninsula
Beara, where you will find a lot of suitable places to paint or draw,
or go sight seeing, if you wish.
Other interesting trips could go to the nearby fishing town Castletownbere,
or to Dursey Island, which is reachable by cable railway. Rosary knows
all there is to know both about Baera, as well as Dursey Island, where
she was raised. Her mother is one of the 7 last inhabitants of the island,
which has been designated as a nature reserve. A beautiful environment
for painting and drawing!
It is possible to make trips by bike or on foot along Baera Way. You
can also go sailing, to fish or just for the view.
The evenings can be spent as you choose: walking in the surroundings,
visiting local pubs, or sit around the fire place in the living room
or in the beautiful sun lounge.
On request, Sue Booth-Forbes can arrange interesting programs with Irish
musicians and storytellers or lectures by fotographers and visual artists.
